Introduction

The School of Physics at Hubei University has a proud history dating back to 1942 when it originated as a Mathematics and Physics program at the Hubei Provincial College of Education. In 1958, an undergraduate program in Physics was established, making it one of the pioneering majors in the field of Physics education at the university.

The School of Physics is the vice-chairing unit of the Hubei Physics Society, and its comprehensive strength is considered to be at the forefront of universities in Hubei province. The School of Physics offers three undergraduate majors in Physics, Physics (Normal), and Quantum Information Science. Additionally, it has a master's degree program in Physics, an academic master's degree program in Curriculum and Teaching Theory, and a professional master's degree program in subject teaching (Physics). The School of Physics has launched its second doctoral program in Nanomaterials and Devices.

The Physics major has been recognized as the first brand major in Hubei Province (2004), the national characteristic major (2008), and the national first-class professional construction point (2019).

The college possesses several provincial research and teaching platforms and is a part of the construction of several provincial and ministerial research platforms. It comprises several high-level innovation platforms such as Hubei International Science and Technology Cooperation Base of China-Russia Advanced Functional Magnetic Materials, Hubei Basic Physics Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Hubei Key Laboratory of Ferro & Piezoelectric Materials and Devices (co-construction), Hubei Engineering Research Center of Neuromorphic Devices and brain-like Chips (co-construction), and Key Laboratory of Intelligent Sensing System and Security of Ministry of Education (participation). Such research and teaching platforms are critical contributors to the overall progress made in the field of Physics.

The School of Physics has developed successful international partnerships and collaborations with prestigious universities such as Pennsylvania State University, National University of Singapore, Virginia Tech University, University of Wollongong, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Tsinghua University, Institute of Physics of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Suzhou Institute of Nano-Tech and Nano-Bionics, among others.

The School of Physics at Hubei University has made tremendous strides in Physics education, research, and innovation. It has become a leading institution in the field of Physics in the region and has gained recognition and respect both nationally and internationally.
