On December 21th, 2016, the re-election ceremony of the Academic Committee of the Provincial Key Laboratory of Ferro-Electric Materials and Devices was held. 16 well-known experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, including Academician Nan Cewen, served as members of the new academic committee. Mr. Nan Cewen served as the chairman. Wang Dongmei, director of the Department of Science and Technology of Hubei Province, Shang Gang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, the heads of relevant functional departments, the representatives of the key laboratory business and graduate students attended the re-election meeting. Vice President Gu Haoshuang presided the meeting.

The Hubei Key Laboratory of Ferro-Electric Materials and Devices was established in 2004. After a decade’s development, the laboratory has achieved remarkable results in basic research in piezoelectric ceramic materials and equipments. It successfully developed high-power ceramics transformers, piezoelectric ultrasonic motors and other products. The laboratory hosted and participated in more than 100 scientific research projects such as the National "863" Program and the National Natural Science Foundation's major research projects, and won the second-level National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology, the first-level Provincial Prize for Progress in Science and Technology of Hubei province and many other honors. The laboratory has also obtained more than 30 invention patents at home and abroad.

Shang Gang said that Hubei University is a comprehensive university jointly built by the province and the government. The university has an excellent tradition and a good momentum of development in subjects related to electronic science and technology. In recent years, Hubei Key Laboratory of Ferro-Electric Materials and Devices has been continuously refining the platform construction and has obtained a number of distinguishing scientific research results, which have brought about good economic and social benefits. Shang Gang expressed gratitude to the Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province for its full support for the construction of the laboratory. He also thanked the experts who served as the academic committee of the laboratory. Shang Gang believed that with the joining of Academician Nan Cewen , the scientific research level of the laboratory will surely be further enhanced and the construction of the laboratory platform will also be promoted.

Shang Gang issued a letter of appointment to Nan Cewen and other scholars. Nancewen thanked the school for its trust and the great importance attached to the research of ferro-electric materials and devices on behalf of the academic committee. He believed that with the support of the school party committee, the development of the laboratory has a really bright future.

Wang Dongmei said that Hubei Province, as a major province of science and education, has its greatest advantage in basic research, and the Provincial Science and Technology Department will further increase its support for basic research in universities. The key laboratory is an important carrier to conduct basic research. Universities must take up the major responsibility, standardize laboratory management, and strengthen the construction of scientific research platform.
