Electronic Science and Technology is the leading-edge discipline of information science and technology. Based on modern physics and mathematics, it studies the movement of electrons and photons and their interaction in different media. It also studies various electronic materials and components, information optoelectronic materials and devices, integrated circuits and integrated electronic systems. As an interdisciplinary subject, its curriculum aims at the cultivation of high-quality students with a solid academic foundation, wide knowledge and strong practical abilities. This major was started in the Institute of Piezoelectric Ferroelectric Ceramic Materials in 1970s. And its research results of "piezoelectric ceramic booster transformer" won the second-level National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology. In 1991, the major of Electronic Science and Technology was formally established. After more than two decades’ development, it has ranked among the brand disciplines as well as the characteristic disciplines in Hubei Province and is authorized to set up posts for Chutian Scholars. It offers doctoral program of the second level discipline of Nano-materials and Devices, and master program of first level discipline of Electronic Science and Technology. It holds several high-level research and teaching platforms including The Provincial Key Laboratory of Ferroelectric Piezoelectric Materials and Devices, The Research and Development and Promotion Center of Electronic Functional Materials for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Hubei Province, The Key Base of Independent Innovation for Colleges and Universities in Hubei Province for Energy Information Materials. This major boasts of a strong and experienced faculty and outstanding scientific research strength, with a number of Chutian scholars and scholars enjoying domestic or world fame as distinguished professors.

Electronic Science and Technology (Industry Plan) is a special major which has been established in recent years to cultivate innovative talents for new industries. It has an experienced faculty with outstanding research strength. The major implements a tutorial system for undergraduates under the training mode of "school-enterprise cooperation". With the introduction of school-enterprise cooperation projects into classroom teaching, the mode provides ample opportunities for students graduation projects, production internships and their future employment. The school-enterprise double mentoring system is also implemented to train professional talents with strong practical and innovative abilities for microelectronics and optoelectronics industries.
